We are the Light Bringers

I don’t want to hear about one more shooting. I don’t want to know that a home has been washed away or family farm rendered to ashes from flame. I don’t want to know that ignorance and hate lives so close to my back door or that trigger fingers are being exercised over a nuclear bomb.

I don’t want to know.

It’s so dark and so bleak and endlessly painful to know.
I could crawl into a shell of fear. I could cradle my babes close to my chest and never let them out of arms reach. I could put on rose coloured glasses and assume the smoke and mirrors I created were true. I could do all of these things. Hide. I want to create space between me and the atrocity.
Is that so wrong?

The quick answer here is YES. And I really hate that answer. I don’t want to know about all of this hard when all I want is easy and safe. The reality is that we aren’t called to live safe or even happy lives.

Friends, we are called to live courageously.
How do I do that, sitting here with heavy heart and tear rimmed eyes in my small sphere of life? The world outside my door is big and filled with broken and bleeding. What can I, a small town living stay-at-home mom do to live courageously?

And this is the boldness we have in God’s presence: that if we ask God for anything that agrees with what he wants, he hears us. If we know he hears us every time we ask him, we know we have what we ask from him.’
1 John 5:14

Do those words not make you feel brave? It will if you understand the significance of them. I didn’t always understand. Even now, still I struggle to truly know deep in my heart the permission this gives me to have courage in all things.

What then do I do to live with courage here in my home in this current season of life? Sally Clarkson launched her newest book yesterday, ‘The Life Giving Table’ in it she delves into the ministry that can happen within your home, in a single room while sitting around a simple table.

It caused me to think of the magnitude of such a small space and really empowered me to recognize my role in enabling the difference makers of tomorrow; my children. Here in this space I have the unique privilege to equip them for the realities outside our door, both near and far.
You were chosen to tell about the wonderful act of God, who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.’ 1 Peter 2:9

It can be very easy to dismiss my role here as mom, living small town life at home. Far too easy to disregard my responsibility to create a rooted foundation for my children when it is their time to go and be light bringers into the dark and disillusioned of the world.

Friends, take heart as you watch both near and far perhaps at home or through a TV screen at the dark and bleak in this world. It will attempt to reduce us to cowards dictated by fear. WE are the difference makers, the light bringers. If you believe, you have an unlimited resource from which to be encouraged!
